Downstrands Family Resource Centre
Downstrands Family Resource Centre is based at The Dolmen Centre, Kilclooney, Portnoo and provides a wide range of supports and services to the communities of Glenties, Ardara, Rosbeg and Portnoo in SW Donegal.Opened in 2006 Downstrands Family Resource Centre helps combat rural isolation and promotes positive health and wellbeing by organising community activities such as community garden’s, Rosbeg & Portnoo Men’ s Shed, Glenties Knitters, adult education classes and activities for children and young people. In addition it provides support services such as counselling, family therapy, social prescribing, parenting programmes and a community library.Downstrands Family Resource Centre also provides information and advocacy services, administrative support to voluntary groups and opportunities for people who want to volunteer.Downstrands Family Resource Centre is one of 106 Family Resource Centres in Ireland funded by Tusla under the Family Resource Centre Programme. It is supported by a number of other agencies and funding bodies to deliver specific programmes. These include Donegal Education and Training Board, North West Regional Drugs Task Force, Donegal Local Development Company, HSE, Electric Aid, Katharine Howard Foundation.Downstrands Family Resource Centre is a registered charity and complies with the Governance Code for the Community, Voluntary and Charitable Sector in Ireland.The Family Resource Centre compiled a very useful index of Services in the area which can be found here:[gview file=”http://ardara.ie/wp-content/uploads/community-directory-2013.pdf”]
