Annual Agricultural Show in Ardara

The annual Ardara show took place in Sandfield on Saturday 12th August, and again it was a great success. There were great crowds in attendance and the quality of livestock on display was superb in all categories. The display in the marque again was massive and a joy to behold. There was a great selection of activities on offer in the field and it was a great day’s entertainment for all the family. The evening finished off with a great night’s entertainment in the GAA grounds with dancing well into the night.

Wild Atlantic Festival

The Annual Wild Atlantic Festival came to an end on Saturday 12th August, and we hope everyone who attended the various events took away special memories, whether it was Dancing at the Crossroads, the various Walks, the Mystery Bus Tour, the Visit to Green Gate, The Bart Whelan Photographic Exhibition or Lecture, the Blessing of the Graves, the Visit to St. Shanaghan House, or Stephen Bennett’s Art Gallery, the various films in the Heritage Centre, The Duck Race, or listening to the tender tones of Shane on the Diamond or having a cup of tea with Geraldine in the Flower Pot, visiting our Weaving Houses and Shops or the Ardara Shows, or just meeting people home on holiday because that is what this festival was about, meeting our friends as they came home.

Slowey Family Barbecue

Every year since the death of Margaret Slowey in 2009, her husband Gerard organised a barbecue in her memory to raise money for cancer care and local charities.  Sadly Gerard left us on December 17th last year, but the family Aine, Mairead and Anthony wish to continue the Barbecue in both their memories with proceeds going to Cancer Care West and two local charities.  Friends and family are helping out to make this a special event this year. A great selection of music has been organised and things kick off at 5.30pm on Sunday August 20th in the Corner House, and everyone is most welcome. Amongst the entertainers attending will be Hazemize, Red Alert, Scarlet Rose, Jimmy Kavanagh, Brendan and Paddy, Peter Miller, Gerard McTaggart, Josephine Breslin, The Duck Street Band, Black “Magic” Stuff, The Dee Tees, and many others. Also at this event The Donegal Association in Dublin will be in attendance to make a presentation to Grainne McGettigan of Cancer Care West, proceeds from the highly successful Donegal Person of the Year held in Dublin in March. Everyone is very welcome to come along and join in the fun.
