Johnny Doherty Festival September 22nd to 24th

The Johnny Doherty Festival is one of the top events in the country and takes place in Ardara on the weekend of September 22nd to 24th.  The top line act is of course Altan, but there will be a variety of great entertainers in town on this weekend. We will gladly welcome our regular visitors from Scotland and indeed from all over.  An event not to be missed! For more details contact Pat Mc Gill on 087 6900714

Farewell to our Future

This week is a sad time in many households as our students head off to universities and colleges around the country and indeed abroad. It is always emotional as the people of the future head off to pastures new and the family circle for many is changed forever. But there is always a time to go and achieve our individuality and we wish every person leaving the parish all the best in the future.

Sad Day in Ardara

This Friday is a sad day in Ardara as Ulster Bank on the Diamond closes its doors for the last time in Ardara for well over a hundred years, and it’s sad for all concerned. Many people got their chance in business through the helpful assistance of some of the very nice managers who served there. Our biggest business Gallagher’s Bakery got started in business through the services of the bank, as the late Frank Gallagher used to say, on the wisdom of Paddy Berrick. Many people came to work in the bank and many got married here and are very much part of the community of the region. The bank closes on Friday afternoon, 8th September.
