Good Times Return: “Cup of Tae” Opening Concert
Ardara is proud to announce that its most famous festival, the “Cup of Tae”, returns in all its glory this weekend, honouring one of the greats of traditional music Dermot Byrne at Friday night’s Concert in the Nesbitt Arms Hotel.
At 8.00pm this Friday night the doors of the Ballroom of the Nesbitt Arms Hotel will open to a special concert to honour our special guest Dermot Byrne. Dermot will present the Concert in the capable company of his great friends Brid Harper and Steve Cooney, and during the Show Dermot will invite friends to the stage to join him.
A special night for a great musician. The doors open at 8.00pm and the Show begins at 8.30pm. You pay at the door €15.
The Schools of Music
The Schools of Music are run as part of the “Cup of Tae” Festival.
Our Guest of Honour Dermot Byrne will conduct a Master Class on Accordion. This is a unique opportunity to learn from the Master.
The ever popular Brid Harper will conduct a Master Class in Fiddle ably assisted by Michael O’Rourke who, as a close link and student of the great John “the Tae” Gallagher, will conduct an additional Fiddle Class.
And as always the great Donna Harkin will lead a Class for beginners on various instruments.
All Classes are at St. Mary’s School and run from 10.00 am to 12.30 pm and 2.00 pm to 4.00 pm on Saturday and Sunday.
The cost for the full Course is €80.00 per adult and €40.00 per student. Registration will take place at 8.00pm on Friday before the Concert or on Saturday morning before Classes begin at St Mary’s School or contact Imelda on 086-3895001 or contact by email: glenardfish@gmail.com
Recitals & Open Air Sessions
On Saturday and Sunday at lunchtime some of the finest musicians in Ireland will perform in the Heritage Centre. This is a free Concert and is always so popular. Later on both days they will perform a live Session on the Diamond – weather permitting.
A Unique Event to honour the Campbells
Sadly, since the last “Cup of Tae” Festival, we have lost the wonderful Vincent and Jimmy Campbell and also Ernan O’Donnell. Ernan always played with the Campbells and Ernan was one of the original founding members of the “Cup of Tae” Festival.
So, in the Beehive at 8.00pm on Saturday night, James Keeney will present a special Concert to honour and acknowledge and recall stories from the era of the Campbells. This is a special event and well worth attending. Numbers limited so come early.
Sunday Afternoon on the Diamond
Sunday afternoon at the “Cup of Tae” is always a special event on the Diamond. Along with the Musical Session, the students from the Schools of Music call to the Diamond to show off what they have learnt at the Schools. Always a special and lovely event.
The Finale Concert: The “John the Tae” Concert
The Finale Concert is in the Nesbitt Arms Hotel on Sunday evening at 8.30pm. It’s a lovely Concert where many of the wonderful talent that come to the Sessions over the weekend will perform. This is a Concert not to be missed. Contact Imelda on 086 3895001 or pay at the door.
Sessions all Weekend
There will be Traditional Sessions all weekend in all the pubs and venues. Ardara is the place to be this weekend. For more the full programme, visit our Cup of Tae Festival page or contact Stephen on 087-2424590
