Loughros Placenames Book – Community Interest Poll

Loughros Heritage Group will publish our placenames book later this year. The book will be the culmination of many years work collecting the minor placenames on the Loughros area. These are the names given to fields, rocks, streams, coastal and fishing features, buildings and houses etc. The placenames form part of our area’s cultural heritage and are a lasting legacy of our ancestors’ interaction with the surrounding landscape.

We are trying to gauge the interest there might be in this production, given that such a publication has never been published in the area before. To get an accurate figure we have created a poll for people, whether living locally or away from home, to indicate their interest. We would appreciate if you could share this request with interested people not on Facebook.

The poll has been posted on the Around Ardara Facebook group – see link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/194837983991807/permalink/2410190319123218/

Alternatively, people may wish to contact: loughrosheritagegroup@gmail.com

Thank you for your time – Loughros Heritage Group committee

Classical Concert 2022, Lettermacaward

Classical music is back! After two years enforced silence due to covid, music is springing into life again – over all the country and of course in Lettermacaward too.
We are proud and happy that we can continue our effort to bring high quality classical music to Lettermacaward and host again the Donegal Chamber Orchestra conducted by Victor Yélamo for the 4th Concert in the historical picturesque Church of Ireland in Lettermacaward.

The brilliant acoustics in this Church make every music performance an unforgettable event. With music from Handel, Dvorak, Scriabin, Holst and other composers, the orchestra with string players of all ages and across the country will enchant you and carry you in the magic world of classical music. We can promise you more than an hour of wonderful music.

Mark the 4th of June, 5pm, in your diary.

The Donegal Chamber Orchestra (DCO) is one of the ensemble groups within the Donegal Music Education Partnership, and was founded in 2006 by Hungarian violinist Orsolya Szabo-Yelamo and Spanish cellist Victor Yelamo, both of whom you can meet afterwards, together with the rest of the musicians, at Elliott’s Lounge where light refreshments will be served.

Admission €12 at the door.

For further information please contact Angela on 07495-44341 / 086-2727502 or Carolyn on 07495-44823 / 087-7873415.
