Grant Awarded: Protecting & Enhancing Ardara’s Natural Heritage

We’re delighted to share that Ardara has been awarded funding under the Local Authority Waters Programme to research and enhance our local river and woodland biodiversity. This project is to help answer the needs of the community, especially our younger community members.

The project is step one of our Natural Heritage initiative and will include a biodiversity report for Ardara and its environs, new signage for the town highlighting local flora and fauna and a number of guided nature walks led by our partners Nature Learn.

Kicking off in July, we look forward to delivering on the ask of Ardara’s children in learning more about our local nature.

Thanks to the Local Authority Waters Programme and Jimmy McVeigh for their support!

Dragonfly Ireland Workshop

dragonfly

“An Introduction to Dragonflies and Damselflies” takes place at Sheskinmore Nature Reserve.

It will run from 10am to 3pm on Saturday June 25th and will be led by Dave Wall. Numbers are limited but there are a number of places still available.

A spokesperson said: “During this workshop we will look at the features used to identify Ireland’s dragonfly and damselfly species, how to survey for them, where to find them. We will visit local wetland habitats in search of some of the dragonfly and damselfly species found on this beautiful and remote stretch of the Irish coastline.

“This workshop is suitable for beginners and those wishing to refresh their identification skills.”

Places cost €20, with a special student rate of €10.

Booking details and further information can be found on the Eventzilla page.

Bus Parking

It would be so appreciated if the bus parking area in the town car park could be left for the use of buses only during the summer season.

This is a most important issue and every member of our community’s help would be appreciated in dealing with this matter.
