Farewell to Joe
Last Tuesday the sad news reached Ardara of the death of Joe Lough. Joe came from the far end of the parish, from a townland called Cloughfeinn, were he often spoke about with fondness and of the many people who once lived there. Joe moved to Doohill many years ago where he made his home and where he worked the land. And how he worked the land! Neighbours often remarked that it didn’t matter what time they got up, they were never up before Joe. Joe was renowned for his warmth and friendliness and his wonderful wit. He was a very hard worker, a kind caring neighbour and friend to all who knew him, but most of all a wonderful family man and loving father to all his children and to his wife Bridget. We extend the sympathy of the community to his family and friends.
Raymond gets a big send-off
The Irish community in London came out in huge numbers to the removal and funeral of Raymond Sweeney in England recently. Raymond was a true dedicated follower of Ardara GAA, Donegal county team, and of Tir Connail Gaels of whom he a was a legend. Like many of his generation, London became home for Raymond but how he enjoyed his regular visits home to Ard Conal and to Pearse Park. Raymond will be missed by all in Ardara and we offer the sympathy of the community to his family and friends.
Saturday’s garden fete set to attract a large crowd
Donegal Person of the Year, Stephen McCahill, will officially open the annual Church of Ireland Garden Fete on Saturday, July 15th, in the gardens of the Rectory, Killybegs Road, Ardara. Always a popular event at this time of year, there will be a variety of stalls, including cakes and preserves, plants, bric-a-brac, a teddy tombola, and many more. There will also be games for the whole family. Teas will be served in the marquee at the fete, which always attracts a large attendance from the locality and further afield. Opening time is 2pm.
Duchas is on the Way

Ardara Agriculture Show
The annual Ardara Agricultural Show will be held this year on Saturday, 12th August, from 10am until late in Sandifeld, Ardara. There is a wide range of categories again this year and booklets containing entry forms are available in the local shops. Please note the last day for acceptance of entries is Saturday 22nd July. Carers Support Group
The Carer’s Group will meet in The HUB Youth Centre, Glenties on the 18th July at 8pm. A make-up demonstration by Colette Boyle will take place on the night, and new members are very welcome.
Quiz Night
Clare Molloy is organising a quiz night, which will be held every Wednesday evening at 9.30pm in Annoras Bar, Narin. The quiz on Wednesday 19th July is for The Jack and Jill Foundation. All welcome.
The HUB Youth Centre
Are you aged between 16 & 25 and would like to improve your future? Then come along to the IGNITE YOUR FUTURE, an Youth Activation Programme which will be held at the HUB Youth Centre. Community Defibrillator
Our fundraising effort continues to support and help maintain the community defibrillators. The house to house envelope collection has been taken up. Thank you to all who have contributed so far. If any locals still have envelopes, you can leave then in Morgan’s or the Dolmen Centre. Envelopes are available in local businesses for any visitors who wish to contribute. Thank you.
