Ardara Cleanup Week
Cleanup week started in Ardara on Sunday 16th April. Anyone willing to collect litter on any road can get bags and pickers from Stephen by contacting him on 087-2424590.
Full bags of picked up litter will be collected.
Town Healthcheck
Awake Tourism and Paul Doherty Architects invite the entire Community of Ardara to a presentation of the completed ‘Town Healthcheck’, and an opportunity to be part of the next steps in developing a regeneration Plan for Ardara, that aims to respond to the present and future needs of the Community.
In an informal, open workshop setting, we will explore possible opportunities to enhance our town for the residents, visitors, and Businesses. You will be invited to look at some draft proposals and to be part of the briefing process.
The workshop is open to all interested individuals, groups, associations, traders, etc and in particular to the young people of the Community.

Poor Farmers Presentation Night
The PFA presentation night takes place on Saturday 22nd april at 9pm with music by Patrick O’Shea and refreshments at Teagues Bar.
Please come along to celebrate the biggest year yet at the PFA. €52,000 raised for Ability Rocks, Charlie Bennett Fund and Hugh’s House Dublin.
Ardara’s Anonymous Art Auction Raises €3,470 for Donegal Charities
An Anonymous Art Auction in Ardara has raised €3,470 for two Donegal charities, Ardara Cardiac First Responders and the Bumbleance Children’s Ambulance Service.
The event, which was organised by local woman Clare Molloy, was held in Nancy’s Bar over the weekend.
Dozens of artists donated works of art anonymously for the auction.
The names of the artists will be put with the artworks in the next few days, so keep an eye out for that, they may surprise you!
Rich Loughros Place-Lore Recorded in New Book
Loughros Heritage Group is delighted to announce the launch of its new publication, called ‘Pointe Luacharois, Loughros Point: Placenames and Tales of Nooks and Crannies’. The publication is the culmination of a multi-year project which began in 2015 when the Loughros Heritage Group was founded.
A spokesperson for Loughros Heritage Group said: “When we initially came together we were acutely aware of the rapid loss of placenames and their associated knowledge and knew it was paramount that we took action to record them for posterity. Since then, the group has been actively working with the local community and diaspora and have recorded 600 placenames across 16 townlands.”
The 174 page, A4 publication contains a breakdown by townland of each of the placenames which derive from Irish, English and Scots. The origins of the placenames recorded are various, such as mythology and folklore, an event or particular use or may even relate to family or person. This rich oral repository shows that our ancestors had an innate connection and understanding of their surrounding landscape.
The spokesperson further added: “We were extremely fortunate during the production of the publication for the invaluable assistance of Desmond Gallagher (Designated Media) and Donnchadh Ó Baoill, Rann na Feirste, a member of the Irish Placenames Committee. Desmond worked tirelessly on the design and layout and has brought the publication to a high professional standard. Donnchadh provided expert advice on the translation, spelling and proofreading of placenames and we are honoured that he has agreed to launch the publication.
The publication is part funded by Creative Ireland through the ‘Culture and Creativity Grant Scheme’, Donegal County Council and the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media.
Pointe Luacharois, Loughros Point: Placenames and Tales of Nooks and Crannies will be launched on Saturday 22 nd April at 3pm in the Parish Centre, Ardara (adjacent to the Church of the Holy Family), eircode: F94 VX98 and will be available to purchase priced €20. Following the event, the publication will be available in local outlets. The Ardara Cup of Tae Festival takes place again this year on the May Bank Holiday weekend, Friday 28th April to Monday 1st May 2023.
This year we honour the wonderful Donna Harkin.
